CRG Automation Announces Leadership Transition as Company Enters New Growth Phase
Louisville, Kentucky — June 2, 2025 — CRG Automation, a leading provider of innovative industrial automation solutions, today announced that James DeSmet will transition from his role as President and CEO to become Chairman of the Board, effective July 1, 2025. Chief Operating Officer Paul Lauritzen, who joined CRG in June 2024, will succeed DeSmet as President and CEO following a planned transition period.
DeSmet, who has led CRG Automation since acquiring it in 2019, oversaw a transformative period of growth, innovation, and operational excellence. Under his leadership, the company expanded its capabilities, entered new product categories, and became a trusted partner for clients solving some of industry’s toughest engineering challenges. The success garnered national media coverage from TIME, Forbes, Inc, Fast Company, and The New York Times, among others.
“In 2024, I brought in exceptional leaders—including two former Big Ass Fans executives—with a vision to evolve the business and prepare for the next chapter,” said DeSmet. “Now, with a strong leadership team in place and the company on an upward trajectory, the timing is right for this transition.”
CRG Automation is experiencing strong demand for its offerings and expects 2025 revenue to double the prior year’s. The company is actively investing in talent, expanding its customer base, and exploring new strategic opportunities.
As Chairman, DeSmet will remain deeply engaged with CRG, helping shape long-term strategy and supporting the company’s pursuit of acquisitions in the commercial automation space. He also plans to pursue new ventures and emerging technologies where his engineering background and entrepreneurial mindset can make an impact.
Incoming President and CEO Paul Lauritzen brings decades of operational and growth experience to the role. “I’m honored to lead CRG Automation into its next chapter,” said Lauritzen. “James has built a remarkable foundation, and I’m excited to accelerate that momentum as we scale and innovate for the future.”
The leadership change reflects CRG Automation’s continued evolution as a company “on the move,” committed to growth, talent, and strategic investments that position it as a force in the automation industry.
